Both David and Saul had the same taunting from the same giant. One shook in his armor and one couldn’t see past victory. What made the difference?
God’s word says,
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” Isaiah 26:3 (ESV)
Is it possible that Saul’s faith had worn away little by little every day that Goliath came out to mock their army? Is it possible that David had been in the quiet of the sheep field with God, growing through each smaller victory with his sling, building his faith each day?
Bullies rely on words to demean and tear down their opponents. The way to stand up to a bully is to let truth enter the situation. The darkness must flee when the light is turned on.
May we continually keep our minds locked on Jesus while He shuts our bullies down.
